The Psychology behind the gym, pushing your body through your mind

The gym has really served as a safe space-a place to escape, and just have some me time while I push some heavy weights and challenge my mind. I have expressed that the gym not only serves as a place to work on my physical health but has also served as a place of therapy for me. It is a place where i can leave my problems at the door and work through what is going on internally. Not only is this an inclination but is backed by science! When we exercise, our brain releases a certain chemical that improves our mood and well being. What this means is that when I'm having a bad day, clocking a few hours in the gym definitely can be a game changer.

Throughout my fitness journey, one thing I can certainly stand on is the mind and body connection .One's mental state such as emotions , thoughts and attitude has a physical impact on the body whether it's negative or positive. Having discovered that, I came to the conclusion that when I'm in the gym I don't want to be around any negative energy. I knew the impact that mindset played so I needed to be in a thriving mental state to effectively tackle my goals.

I continued to explore the role psychology played in this environment by simply watching people's behavior and results as they worked out.

I have seen someone tackle new weights or workouts and psyched themselves out due to the fact that they expressed an inability to execute before even trying. While on the other end of the spectrum I have accomplished things that I didn't think I would because I got out my head and listened to my gym partner who kept telling me to push and that I can do this.

It was imperative to bring this topic to the forefront because not only does exercise help with our physical health but plays a major role in our mental health as well. The mind and body connection is very much a real thing. Our mental state not only helps or determines how far our bodies will push but also impacts how healthy our bodies are. Going to the gym or working out is a space that is very challenging, please don't do yourself a disservice by starting off on the wrong foot. Thoughts are very powerful , what you manifest or think you can achieve, your body will surprise you with the follow through. So have a positive mindset as u attack such a challenging and maybe unfamiliar space.

Stay positive ! Get through that workout ! Hit that new Personal Record !

This is so true and shows up in ways such as when I take my PT test ! There are moments when my body feels like giving up but I tap in with a bit more mental fortitude and get it Donne

so true this actually motivates me to keep pushing through this journey. The more we educate ourselves and see how much things are correlated physical, mental health , food and spirituality…one fuels the other! great job 👏🏾
